MenB Vaccination Posted or Updated on 25 Mar 2026

Important Information for Students:

What's Happening?

NHS England has asked GP practices to offer the MenB vaccine to a small number of students linked to the meningococcal outbreak in Canterbury, Kent, who have since returned home.

Do you need the vaccine?

For most local residents, vaccination will NOT be required under the current national criteria.

You should contact the practice ONLY if:

  • You have been directly advised that you are eligible, AND
  • You are currently living locally

Please contact reception and clearly state that your request relates to the MenB vaccination linked to the Canterbury outbreak

Who is likely to be eligible?

You may have been contacted by your:

  • University
  • School
  • Public Health

This is likely if you:

  • Live in specific halls in Canterbury
  • Visited certain venues (5th to 16th March)
  • Close contact of a confirmed case

If you have not been contacted directly, you do not need to contact the practice about vaccination.
